Learn about The Chef Gardens sustainable packaging?
At The Chef’s Garden, sustainability matters We believe in and practice regenerative farming techniques, boosting carbon sequestration and benefiting the planet. Over the years, we’ve been working on making our packaging increasingly more sustainable. Years ago, for example, we shifted from white boxes and paper to brown, which is more environmentally friendly. More recently than that, we conducted a series of tests to see whether or not wrapping our produce in eco-friendly brown paper met with our high food safety standards. Before implementing this change, we performed quality control testing, including through the use of temperature-measuring computer chips on shipments made for testing purposes. After obtaining results that confirmed the safety of this procedure and also receiving excellent feedback from a sampling of clients, we made the switch—confident that this packaging is good for the environment while also being safe and good for you, your diners and the product itself. Starting in January 2020, all of our plastic containers have been switched over from various #s to PET #1s, which are widely accepted at all recycling centers. Plus, you can find quickly retail stores, municipal recycling centers and private recyclers that accept plastic bags and film packaging. You just enter your zip code here to find places nearest you. In general, most recycling centers don’t require that you remove labels from a product prior to tossing it in a recycling bin. Sustainable packaging matters!

Does Farmer Lee Jones really wear overalls and a red bowtie every day?
Yes! Farmer Lee Jones always wears his trademark overalls and red bowtie as a humble nod to a scene from John Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath – as a symbol of the resilience and determination of generations of farmers who have come before us and as a remembrance of the family’s own perseverance through trial.
Ever since the early days of The Chef’s Garden, he has remained tirelessly committed to ensuring that the family’s four-hundred-acre farm remains one of the most innovative and pioneering in the world. He has been driven to foster nuanced conversations with the chefs in our industry who look to the farm to grow vegetables that are as beautiful as they are flavorful, as well as home cooks who care deeply about their food and how it’s grown.
