Ingredients
- 2 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 tbsp. butter
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- dash of Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ red wine
- 4 cups plum tomatoes, seeded & crushed
- 1 tbsp. tomato paste
- 2-3 tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp salt & ground cayenne pepper
- 1 tbsp. fresh basil or 1 tsp dried
- 1 tbsp. fresh marjoram or 1 tsp. dried
- 2 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
Steps
- In large Dutch oven, sauté onion, mushrooms, & garlic in oil.
- Add wine & Worcestershire.
- Add tomatoes, paste, sugar, salt & pepper.
- Simmer for at least 1 hours, uncovered till sauce is thick.
- Add herbs & simmer for 20-30 min. longer.
- Serve over pasta.
